Taste of Kiwi given as AWARD finalists announced

The first round of finalists for AWARD have been announced, with Special Group, DDB, DraftFCB, Colenso, M&C Saatchi, Clemenger BBDO, AIM Proximity, Flying Fish, The Sweet Shop, Film Construction, YukFoo and Curious Film among those that made the cut in the Direct Marketing, Craft in Film and Craft in Print categories. More category finalists will be announced soon and the awards will be dished out on 25 February.

Victory eludes all in NAB comp, but DraftFCB receives merit certificate

Those NAB ad of the month judges are obviously pretty tough nuts to crack, because Jeneal Rohrback from Marsden Inch, Sue Worthington from Indiego and Jon Coles from .99 decided not to select a winner for the October round. But in true NCEA fashion, they did give DraftFCB’s ‘Night test drive’ ad for Mini a Highly Commended acknowledgement.

There were over 1,000 entries from around the world, but there were just 16 golds awarded at the US Direct Marketing Association’s Echo awards and two of them went to New Zealand agencies, with .99 continuing its Midas touch with Air New Zealand’s ‘Nothing to Hide’ in the Consumer-Travel & Hospitality/Transportation section and RAPP Tribal winning for its ‘Thank You Notes’ campaign for Heinz Wattie’s Gourmet Dog in the Production Manufacturing and Distribution category.

This year’s Effies tagline was ‘the best ad for advertising’. And it was certainly a pretty good advertisement for Colenso BBDO, which won 12 awards and became the only agency to ever win Most Effective Agency of the Year two years in a row, as well as the only agency to win Most Effective Agency of the Year and Best in Show in the same year. It was a close run thing, however, with DraftFCB nipping effectively at its heels with nine.

The 57th Annual Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival is underway with the announcement of the first three shortlists in the Direct Lions, Promo & Activation Lions and PR Lions categories. And, in keeping with the theme de jour (that’s French, don’t you know), the Kiwi contingent are off to a flying start, with 13 campaigns making the grade. Choosing another similar long skinny country as a random point of comparison, Italy has nine campaigns shortlisted in the same categories.
