It’s nearly time for this year’s Beacon Awards and CAANZ has announced the finalists, with FCB Media once again leading the pack by a decent margin, followed by OMD NZ and Y&R Media.
At the first two first editions of the revamped Beacon Awards, there wasn’t much open space available on the FCB Media table on account of the sheer number of gongs the agency had collected over the course of the respective nights. At this year’s edition of the flashy awards evening that again seemed more akin to boxing event, the agency picked up a total of 13 awards, which is believed to be the highest number in the history of the event. Coinciding with this strong run of form is the tenure of FCB Media’s head of strategy Rufus Chuter, who joined FCB from London’s MEC in May 2012. And StopPress recently chatted to him about industry.
Over 900 ridiculously well-dressed media types took their seats at the Viaduct Events Centre last night for the 2015 edition of the Beacon Awards. And although most winners will no doubt feel a sense of pride—and the mild throb of a hangover—today, the most successful agencies on the night were MBM, FCB Media and Spark PHD.
Awards season is chugging along, and earlier this month Caanz announced the finalists for the 20015 edition of the Beacon Media Awards, which are set to be hosted at the Viaduct on 23 April this year. Last year, at the inaugural edition of the rebranded Beacon Awards, FCB dominated proceedings, taking to the stage more frequently than any of the other agencies in attendance. And this time round the agency looks poised to repeat its 2014 performance on account of having picked up 20 awards nominations (two of which are in association with Running with Scissors).
The first-ever Beacon Awards took place last night at the Viaduct Events Centre in front of a capacity crowd, and it was FCB Media that got by far the most exercise, with independent MBM winning agency of the year, MediaWorks TV winning media brand of the year, Maritime New Zealand taking client of the year and Nielsen’s Claire Harris accepting the inspiring individual award.
The bar for call for entries campaigns has risen significantly in recent years, with the likes of DraftFCB’s ‘The real judge of advertising is the consumer’ campaign for the 2011 Effies and TBWA\’s ‘Results Don’t Lie’ effort this year standing out. And there are a couple more good ones bubbling away at the moment for the Axis Awards and the newly rejigged Beacon Awards.
From next year, the CAANZ Media Awards will be replaced by the revamped Beacon Awards, which in addition to featuring a new name will also have a new digs and a flash new look.
