The results of a survey into value perceptions of some of New Zealand’s leading brands were released yesterday at Westfield’s Retail Breakfast Seminar in Auckland. And Pak ‘N’ Save was deemed to be the best value brand in the country, followed by TradeMe, Bunnings and Mitre 10.

Given the commercial slant of Valentine’s Day, and the willingness consumers have to shell out for objects for the objects of affection, there’s never any shortage of interesting creative ideas clamouring for attention at this time of the year. Some of them are pretty good, most of them aren’t. But here are a couple of local examples that caught our attention.
Internet users from around New Zealand, over 278,000 of them in fact, have been busy singling out their favourite websites as part of the 2011 People’s Choice NetGuide Web Awards. The results have been tallied and while there were a few repeat offenders, this year’s overall winner isn’t even of local origin. Mega social networking site Facebook took out the top honour for Site of the Year, taking the crown from last year’s winner stuff.co.nz. The site also nabbed the Best Social Networking Site award.
TradeMe has already launched a daily deals site. But as mouths continue to water about the potential of the world’s latest business trend, it’s about to launch another one called Treat Me, a stand-alone group-buying site focused on services, events and experiences rather than low-margin goods sent out through the post.
Aussie-based media behemoth Fairfax Media has released its results for the last half of 2011, with TradeMe continuing to shine and the New Zealand arms of the business also reporting double digit profit increases despite a slow economy.
Fairfax Media has announced it will be making some sizable changes to its organisational structure in an effort to adapt and prosper in a world where convergent, digital and multi-platform media rules the day. But the New Zealand media operations, it seems, won’t really be affected.
In strange things for sale on TradeMe news, committed Mexi-Dougophiles can bid to get their hands on the authentic and presumably extremely valuable Mexi-Doug Instant Kiwi costume, with the proceeds from the auction going towards WWF’s Earth Hour.
It seems the chocolate reviews written by our StopPress readers have caused Yellow chocolate to sell out! Well, perhaps we’re being a little presumptuous, but the sweet yellowish concoction has all but vanished from supermarket shelves, making it the fastest selling chocolate bar over the past year. Not bad considering its chocolate creator Josh Winger, only got assigned the ‘mission’ to create the yellow chocolate six months ago.
