Commerce Commission gets sassy over NZME/Fairfax merger

In a somewhat surprising announcement this morning, the Commerce Commission showed off its Twitter personality. The regulatory agency took to Twitter to declare its preliminary decision against the Fairfax/NZME merger proposition with the hashtag, #StuffMe.

Although this hashtag, a combination of ‘Stuff’ and ‘NZME’, has been used by other Twitter members since May in the lead up to the decision this is the first time, the government agency has embraced a creative hashtag and the Twitter sphere approves. Trendsmap Auckland has noted #stuffme is trending in Auckland as of this morning.

Former NZ Herald editor-in-chief Tim Murphy called the hashtag use bizarre, while user Chris Caskey applauds the Commission for ‘getting some teeth’.

Although some hungry overseas Twitter users also use the hashtag for when they want a feed, we expect this hashtag will be used by many New Zealand Twitter users today as they discuss the Commerce Commission’s proposed merger decline.
