NZ Fishing World takes ‘Bledisloe Cup of fishing’

Media is a competitive business, with everyone fighting hard for their slice of the pie. But it’s also collegial, with everyone cognisant of the struggles involved in getting those slices. And the two worlds combined this week when Tangible Media’s NZ Fishing World took on Fairfax’s Fishing News in the second annual fishing competition.

Sponsored by FCO and Wave Dancer charters, the stakes are high as each magazine commits to publishing a feature on the comp in their magazine, so credibility goes on the line. And, for the second time, the bragging rights went to Tangible Media’s NZ Fishing World

Durrant, left, with the prize sea-beast and trophy.

“We were delighted to take the title for the second year in-a-row and, for us, it was never in doubt,” says John Durrant, editor of NZ Fishing World, who’s still seething after being told by StopPress that his homeland only had two of the eight criteria required to be a country

Perhaps appropriately for a bunch of sea-plundering alpha males, it all came down to combined length (of the best fish caught by each competitor, of course). And the NZ Fishing World team took victory by a mere 1cm, with the monster of the deep that was caught by Durrant enough to bring home the new trophy, which was provided by FCO and broken immediately by sales manager Mat Hewetson.
