Netflix to launch ad-supported plan in Aotearoa

Netflix has announced the launch of an ad-supported plan in Aotearoa.

According to the streaming company, the new plan will be available in New Zealand in 2027 at a lower price than its other memberships.

Momentum from Australia

This follows on from momentum in Australia, where ad-supported plans reach more than four million monthly active viewers since launching in November 2022.

Netflix says the New Zealand launch marks the next phase of its ads business across ANZ, supported by continued investment in ad technology, measurement and new formats.

This was outlined in New York earlier this week at a Netflix Upfronts event.

Netflix president of advertising Amy Reinhard says: “We’re thrilled to be expanding Netflix with ads to 15 new countries around the world in 2027, including in New Zealand. For members, it means more ways to enjoy Netflix at a price that works for them, and for advertisers, it offers a new opportunity to connect with Netflix’s passionate, engaged fans around the world. Netflix has been in those countries for a decade and our members are already watching, so I couldn’t be more excited for what the future holds.”
