Crowdfunding on the road ahead for Auckland Transport Blog

Anyone who follows transport and planning policy in Auckland will be aware of Auckland Transport Blog‘s contribution to debates around the Core Rail Link, the Unitary Plan and other initiatives. The group blog site provides thoughtful, expert commentary to a growing audience — city councillors and government ministers included — but it has been costing its authors time and money to keep.

A successful crowdfunding exercise may point the way forward. An appeal on GiveALittle to cover the costs of hosting on a new, dedicated server, has more than doubled its modest target of $1800. The blog team had intended to close off donations after the target was reached, but discovered they couldn’t and happily accepted the excess.

One of the blog’s founders, Cameron Pitches, says that “as needs arise we will definitely consider using GiveALittle again, but in the meantime look out for our film night fundraiser later in the year for your chance to contribute again.”
