Red alert … Scoop houses Labour’s virtual hustings

The Labour Party is taking to Scoop’s website for ‘virtual hustings’ meetings, alongside the 12 roadshow events its potential new leaders are holding nationally this week.

A blog by the party says the online initiative is a bid to get more member participation.

Eligible voters have until 10 September to send questions for the candidates – Shane Jones, David Cunliffe and Grant Robertson – to [email protected]

The three hopefuls also have a video invite asking for participation in the Q&A.

The chosen questions will then be answered in a series of blog posts by Labour.

“Given the Party has members in every corner of New Zealand, not everybody will be able to come to the 12 hustings meetings, and the online process is intended to give all eligible voters an opportunity to ask and see questions being answered by the candidates,” the blog says.

Next week Labour will hold an online public meeting on its blog for discussion on the answers to the chosen questions.

The new leader is set to be announced on 15 September.
