Digital advertising sees six percent spike in Q1

New data from IABNZ’s Digital Advertising Report shows in the first quarter for 2020 digital advertising grew by six perfect.

The digital advertising revenue reached over $310 million for the first quarter in 2020.

Digital has increased its share of total media turnover in New Zealand from 41.6 percent in 2018 to 45.4 percent in 2019 (Source: ASA 2019 Media Turnover, May 2020).

Channel growth was lead by Social, with almost 18 percent growth on the same period in  the previous year, followed by Search at almost 10 percent.  

In Q1 2020, within Total Display; Audio, Sponsorship and General Display topped Display channel growth on the same period last year, with growth of  108.6 percent, 15.2 percent and 3.5 percent respectively.

The largest shift in Total Display variance in the quarter by advertising category, was Government Departments, Services and Communities, recording a year-on-year increase of 46 percent, following closely by Insurance.  

Total Mobile (Smartphone and Tablet) grew by four percent in Q1 2020.
