Chemistry and MetroEXP move into Auckland Gasworks complex

After a decade in Westhaven, the independent agency Chemistry along with its sister agency MetroEXP, have moved to a custom-designed location at 20 Beaumont Street known as the old Auckland Gasworks building.

The move aims to accommodate the growth of the last few years. Founding Director Joseph Silk says: “It was hard to find a replacement for our old place at Pier 21, with its iconic views of the harbour. So much of the agency’s history was made there, and we leave it with only good memories. But we were outgrowing the place so when 20 Beaumont came on to the market we jumped at the opportunity.”

Located at Level 1, 20 Beaumont Street, the impressive space has been custom-designed for the agency by Townsend Architects to create a modern, open plan environment that’s perfect for creative collaboration, while still retaining the building’s historic features.

Joint ECD’s and Founding Partners Patrick Murphy and Susan Young agree. “Achieving a ranking of 4th in New Zealand for creativity by Campaign Brief’s The Work 2023, doesn’t happen by accident. Since Covid we have worked hard to balance the freedom of WFH with a desire to have everyone back in the office where collaboration can thrive. This new space signals our ongoing commitment to a workspace where everyone can come together to create outstanding results for our clients.”

Founding Director Mike Larmer says for the past decade the agency has been on a “mission to champion the power of Brand response strategic thinking fused with world class creativity, social innovation and channel planning to help solve our clients’ business problems”.

“We now have a space where we can leverage our joined-up thinking approach across our many business units seamlessly,” says Founding Director Mike Larmer.
