130 million videos to get girls into school

“130 million girls didn’t go to school today, not because they didn’t want to, but because they weren’t given the chance,” says a young girl narrating a #GirlsCount campaign video, before she goes on to explain the global crisis.

Launched in time for International Women’s Day, #GirlsCount is asking viewers to get involved by making the world’s longest video, which will count to 130 million to represent each of the girls who doesn’t go to school.

To do that, it needs people to pick a number and make a video of themselves saying it. The videos will then be combined to make the world’s longest video that will urge leaders around the world to get girls into schools.

Already, hundreds of men and women have submitted a video, including Helen Clark who chose 17.

“Every number is a girl who deserves an education,” says the young girl in the video, “and every girl counts”.
