Stuff Digital restructure proposal could see eight jobs cut

Stuff Digital has proposed a company restructure that could result in eight job cuts if it goes ahead as it looks to invest further in its In Depth and specialist content areas.

As reported on Stuff masthead The Post, this follows the live news and commissioning team being called into an HR meeting on July 22.

The meeting was attended by Stuff HR, editor-in-chief Keith Lynch and an E tū union representative and its aim was to put the proposed restructure forward for consideration. StopPress has approached Stuff for comment.

Nielsen data shows Stuff’s digital audience is consistently growing, with 2.25 million Kiwis aged 15-plus getting their news from the website in March, a 3% lift on the year before.

Immense change

The past two years have seen a period of immense change for Stuff. In 2024, it split into two arms: Stuff Digital and Stuff Masthead Publishing. The latter includes The Post, The Press and The Waikato Times, along with their respective websites. It also filled the gap left by the closure of Newshub by setting up its own 6pm news, ThreeNews.

In 2025, Stuff owner Sinead Boucher announced a major deal with TradeMe that would see the auction site take a 50% stake in the digital arm.

Last month Stuff created two new platforms for its digital arm, HealthStuff and a network of local news websites, called Neighbourly News.

HealthStuff was set up in partnership with Chemist Warehouse to bring health information and advice to Kiwis. It features columns from health professionals, including a GP, pharmacist and a psychiatrist. Meanwhile, Neighbourly News is a collection of 18 hyper-local news sites for towns across Aotearoa. At the start of July, Stuff reported that advertisers were jumping on board with this new initiative.
