The Sweetshop signs Australian director Edward Housden
The Sweetshop has welcomed director Edward Housden to its Australian and New Zealand rosters.
Thoughtful and inventive, Housden has a strong instinct for comedic timing, blending understated performances with refined cinematic restraint.
Greg Fyson, global head of director development and co-managing director, The Sweetshop Australia, says: “Edward is one of those rare directors whose work feels both effortless and deeply considered. Talented as he is tall… I am very excited for what’s to come.”
Strong experience
With strong experience in both commercial and shortform work, Housden has a flair for creating work that turns everyday moments into distinctive, engaging storytelling.
Working with agencies including Adam & Eve, DDB, Saatchi & Saatchi, Mother and BBH, he has created work for the likes of Esso, Stella Artois, Captain Morgan, Nivea and local brands such as Seek.
“It’s great to have new talent of Edward’s calibre joining The Sweetshop, we look forward to Edward weaving his magic in New Zealand very soon,” says Ben Dailey, executive producer and managing director, The Sweetshop New Zealand.
On joining The Sweetshop, Housden says: “I’m very excited to join the sweet people at the Sweetshop. It’s such a great team to be a part of. We’ve already jumped into some really fun work together and I can’t wait to see what’s around the corner.”
His short film “Muscles” premiered as an Official Selection at Cannes, before going on to screen at festivals such as SXSW and BFI London. Housden’s commercial work has also garnered attention within the global award circuit, and has been recognised at D&AD, Cannes Young Director Award, Ciclope, the British Arrows and more.
Housden is now available for commercial, branded and short-form projects across Australia and New Zealand through The Sweetshop.
