TVNZ delivers cross-platform live event for Ready Gamer Mum

PHD Aotearoa, Spark, South Pacific Pictures and TVNZ teamed up to deliver a live cross-platform event around Kiwi gaming show Ready Gamer Mum.

Combining TikTok Live, live TV ads, and gaming, it invited audiences to watch, play, and win in real time.

Ready Gamer Mum airs on TVNZ 2 and TVNZ+ and sees ten young gamers compete across a range of games in the hope of winning a $50,000 prize. The twist is that the only person who can touch the controller is their mum.

Centered on episode five of the series and the game Killabyte, the Live event was filmed at TVNZ’s studios. It kicked off on June 11 at 7pm via TVNZ’s official TikTok account, running alongside the 7.30 to 8.30pm broadcast on TVNZ 2.

Thousands tuned in to participate, with 280,000 views, over 16,000 engagements, and 4,000 game plays.

Bringing people together

Ellie Harwood, Chris Key, and Guy Mansell from the Extremely Casual Gamers podcast hosted the live event, competing for high scores, interacting with viewers in real time, and giving away prizes.

They also delivered four 30-second live crosses into TVNZ 2 during the broadcast, encouraging viewers to jump in and play along.

PHD Aotearoa group business director Kelly Badland says: “Spark’s partnership with TVNZ’s Ready Gamer Mum show is about giving Kiwis a chance for a bit of fun escapism, bringing people together whether they’re watching, playing, or joining the conversation live. We’re proud to deliver this cross-platform experience curated for New Zealander gamers, regardless of ability.”

TVNZ content strategy director Simone Hollows adds: “Bringing live social streaming, live TVCs and gameplay together like this was pretty awesome.  It gave fans a new way to be part of the experience in real time, rather than just watching from the couch.  It felt fresh, and we were genuinely excited to make it happen.”
