The (almost) limitless potential of Netflix

Netflix recently launched a pair of new spots that show how much a Netflix subscription is capable of changing a viewer's life. And while binge-watching shows until your eyes go red might not seem all that beneficial, the pair of new spots credit Netflix with the potential to increase compatibility between couples, make people more adventurous and remedy the frowns on sullen teenage faces. One thing it cannot, however, do is make you the leader of an alien race.

On a regional level, the French arm of Netflix also produced quite an entertaining campaign last year via Ogilvy & Mather Paris that saw GIFs used in a series of digital billboards around the city. A total of 100 different GIFs, borrowed from the streaming service's shows, were used over the course of the campaign, and they were updated in real time according to the weather, sports results or events taking place around the city.

Thus far, Netflix has done no advertising in the Kiwi market but, with the service set to launch here later this year, we're likely to see some promos appear in the near future.

Admit it, when you're watching TV and the ads come on, your head drops to your phone and remains there until the programme resumes. American telecommunications equipment company Qualcomm has embraced this phenomenon with some clever advertising.
