In two days it will be the 30th anniversary of Marty and Doc’s journey from the 1980’s to 2015. And to celebrate Pepsi is releasing a limited run of Pepsi Perfect, the futuristic looking Pepsi bottle in the second instalment of the Back to the Future films, while Toyota has released a car based on the fuel cell technology of the DeLorean.
Sadly things didn’t progress quite as quickly as was anticipated in the Back to the Future trilogy, which saw Marty McFly (Michael J Fox) and Doc (Christopher Lloyd) race through the decades in a beat-up DeLorean.
Flying cars, hoverboards and self-lacing shoes aren’t exactly the norm. Though Lexus has released a hoverboard which can be used on a magnetic track.
But, now Pepsi Perfect is finally here. And about 6,500 bottles can be bought online on October 2. However, you’ll have to be willing to pay the hefty price of $20.15 per bottle.
Here’s an ad for the futuristic beverage, featuring several Back to the Future tropes like flying cars, 80’s diners and of course, hoverboards.
Pepsi also teamed up with Uber to give people the opportunity to take a spin in the DeLorean.
Earlier this month the DeLorean time machine was available on the streets of Auckland through the Uber app.
“Pepsi has had a 30-year relationship with the Back to the Future movie franchise and this was a great opportunity for us to give some lucky people the chance to recreate their own moment from the film,” PepsiCo NZ senior brand manager Michael Taylor said in a release.
But Pepsi isn’t the only brand capitalising on Back to the Future, so is Toyota, creating a variation of the hydrogen fuel cell technology the film predicted which powers the new Mirai model.
Toyota has also got Fox and Lloyd on board to promote it.
