TVNZ the channel of choice for official Covid updates

TVNZ has seen an increase in audience numbers over the past week as a result of the Alert Level 4 restrictions across the country. These restriction have seen more Kiwis accessing OnDemand content, especially news content related to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Last week on TVNZ OnDemand streams hit nearly 8.5 million, up 38 percent week-on-week while reach hit nearly 700,000, up 28 percent week-on-week. This was largely driven by Covid-19 live updates with the 1 News Special the number one programme on TVNZ OnDemand for AP13+ and AP18-54.

Since last Tuesday the broadcaster has seen 2.22 million New Zealanders tune into 1 NEWS at Six to follow the Covid-19 updates, with an average rating of 21.1 for AP5+ and 17.1 for AP25-54.

Over 2.14 million viewers have also tuned into the 1 Breaking News Specials, achieving an average rating of 15.9 for AP5+ and 15 for AP25-54.

On average 1 NEWS has seen 63 percent of all viewers watching TV during its timeslot tune in each day, and 1 Breaking News see a 65 percent share.

Simulcast streams are also up 92 percent week-on-week and simulcast reach was up 59 percent.
