Sky Sport and DDB ready the fans for the return of sport

Sports fanatics have been waiting patiently during lockdown for the return of heart racing moments and big wins. Sky Sport and DDB have pulled together some of our best sporting moments in an ode to the return of sport.

New Zealand has a competitive streak in nearly everything sport related, so watching our favourite activities be put on the back burner due to Covid-19 was hard for our nation.

DDB and Sky Sport have pulled together some of our most gruelling and intense moments to show sport always gets back up and live sport is due to return end of May.

Says Regional Chief Creative Officer, DDB Australia and New Zealand, Damon Stapleton: “There’s a lot of work out there at the moment from brands commiserating with the public that’s a bit downbeat – empty streets and empty sports stadiums. We didn’t want to do that,” says Damon. “We wanted to acknowledge that what’s going on sucks and then find the funny side, because people need a laugh now more than ever.”

DDB New Zealand once again worked collaboratively with Sky Sport’s production department to create both campaigns from home, for those at home, by sifting through and utilising hundreds of hours of pre-existing footage.

Earlier this month, in the lead up to live sport returning to screens, Sky Sport and DDB NZ released We Feel the Same using several global sporting stars and coaches to translate the disappointment felt around the lack of live sport on our screens thanks to COVID-19.

The humorous take on the normal serous coaching interviews was a way to bring some lightness to a time where, like Stapleton said, we all need a laugh.

StopPress agrees with Steve Kearney that they should not of remade the Jumanji movies.

Sport Gets Back Up will run across 60’, 30’ and 3 x 15’ TVCs and Digital.
