Run agency and Auckland Council bring Pride to the CBD

Auckland’s pride festival is quickly approaching for 2020 and Run agency alongside Auckland Council are glamping up our CBD in preparation.

Proud Centres is the initiative run by the Auckland Council and it includes this new interactive installation located the CBD’s Ellen Melville Centre on High Street.

Huge light panels are controlled by a web app, allowing users to choose a graphic, colour it, then send it to the Centre’s giant windows, where it will be animated in lights, overlooking Freyberg Square.

Run collaborated with Augmented Human Lab at Auckland Bioengineering Institute and Faculty of Creative Arts and Industries to make it all happen.

“We wanted to create an interactive solution, so people were drawn to interact with it, not just look or walk past,” said Run co-founder and design director, Laura Cibilich.

The centre sits across from what are now some very vibrant rainbow steps also done in preparation for the Pride festival.
