Ronald McDonald House campaign encourages Kiwis to build forts for awareness

Ronald McDonald House Charities New Zealand has launched a campaign that encourages Kiwis to build forts to help families with a child in hospital away from home.

The face of the campaign is Greer Feck, an 11-year-old girl from Dannevirke and an ex-Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) resident.

In the one minute spot created by DDB an called ‘Build A Fort for RMHC New Zealand’, Greer and a friend have their dinner delivered to them in the cosy fort they have made at a Ronald McDonald House.

The fort is covered with fairy lights and filled with cushions and blankets. It ends with the words ‘A home away from home for families with children in hospital’.

The charity has issued a challenge to families across the country to get involved by building their own special fort and ask their friends to do the same.

The aim is for the forts to raise awareness of family togetherness that RMHC New Zealand provides when a child is in hospital away from home. Once they’ve built a fort, families are asked to share a photo on social media with the hashtag #BuildAFort and tag @rmhcnewzealand.

RMHC New Zealand chief executive Wayne Howett asks people to get involved in the cause and the work RMHC New Zealand does.

“Last year, RMHC New Zealand helped over 4,300 families — more than we ever have since opening our doors almost 30 years ago, and this year is already shaping up to be even busier.”

The ultimate goal is to drive donation so RMHC New Zealand can continue to do the work it does for families in New Zealand.

Howett adds that #BuildAFort touches on special family moments and spending time together, as well as having an ultimate feel-good factor of making a true difference.
