Special builds on digital design capabilities with new director
Special has appointed one of New Zealand’s most experienced multidisciplinary designers Becca O’Shea as design director – digital.
The appointment builds on Special’s existing strength across brand transformation, expanding its digital experiences capability – an area the agency sees as increasingly central to how brands connect with people. Special’s digital offering spans digital Strategy and UX, experience design, digital activations and digital consultancy.
Multidisciplinary designer
O’Shea brings more than 15 years of experience working across local and international markets. Her portfolio includes digital brand experiences for Google APAC, Sony Music and Adidas, as well as full-scale brand and illustration for Hell Pizza and BNZ.
A true multidisciplinary designer, O’Shea’s approach sits at the intersection of art and technology, and her systematic approach ensures work has long-term continuity and scale, with a genuine understanding of how brand and digital must work together across every touch point.
Special founder and executive design director Heath Lowe says that the appointment formalises a relationship that’s been building for years.
“We’ve had the pleasure of working alongside Becca for a long time, and officially bringing her into the fold felt like a natural and exciting next step. She has an approachable, strategic mind and has a genuinely digital-first way of thinking, which is exactly what our clients need as the work we’re doing in this space continues to grow.”
For O’Shea, joining Special is an opportunity to bring her digital expertise to a broader canvas.
“Special has always been an agency that understands the full picture – brand, culture and experience. Digital is a natural extension of that, and I’m excited to help amplify what the team is already building.”
