MediaWorks has taken a novel approach to finding a ‘social media expert’ for Paul Henry in lead up to his new show by creating a bespoke miscrosite that features a monochromatic mugshot of the controversial TV host above a short blurb—written in his dismissive voice—that explains why he is on the hunt for someone talented in the esoteric art of social media.
Rather than relying on a simple job posts to advertise available positions, MediaWorks has over the last few months been using a range of unique approaches to reach potential candidates. When Kanoa Llyod shifted across from Mai FM to 3News to do the weather report, the radio station hosted a campaign that saw a host of candidates try out to take her place, before the position was given to Lily Taurau.
A similar approach was also employed when the 7 Days crew set out to find the Georgie Pie comedy apprentice. However, in this instance the winner, stand-up comic Melanie Bracewell, was only given the opportunity to appear on the show rather than an actual job position.
