New Sky Box officially launches

From today, existing Sky subscribers have the option to upgrade to the new Sky Box that’s said to transform the existing entertainment experience.

The new Sky Box offers satellite TV, On Demand and Streaming all in one place, making it easier and faster for customers to find the sport and entertainment they love.

Sophie Moloney, Sky’s Chief Executive, says: “After many months of hard work by the team at Sky, it’s so great to have our cool new boxes in customers’ homes. The new Sky Box is a key part of our strategy to connect New Zealanders to the sport and entertainment they love, in ways that work for them.”

Today is a significant milestone for Sky following months of delays with he launch. The last product launch of this magnitude was in 2007, when the introduction of My Sky transformed the way New Zealanders watched TV.

“It’s been quite the journey with a few challenging obstacles along the way and I’m extremely proud of the team for all their efforts to get us to this day. It’s an exciting time at Sky as we continue to grow and update our suite of products to ensure that customers have access to our wide range of fantastic content, in ways that work for them,” adds Moloney.

The new Sky Box combines the reliability of satellite-delivered linear TV channels with the flexibility of internet-delivered On Demand content and Streaming apps.

Extensive customer research informed the development of the Box. Features include the ability to watch Sky TV and stream your favourite apps all in one place, a 1 Terabyte hard drive and the ability to record up to five channels simultaneously on My Sky (a feature that rated very highly in our customer research), and an all-new voice remote.

The new Sky Box costs $200 (a one-off non-refundable fee) or customers can choose to pay an ongoing non-refundable monthly fee of $10 if they prefer.

“We have a special group of customers who have been with us for more than 30 years, and they will be offered the new Box at no extra cost, if they would like one.” We know that some of our customers love their Sky just the way it is which is absolutely fine, there is no need to change!

“We’re focused on rolling out the Box to our existing customers first, with new customers to follow in the coming months,” says Moloney.
