There’s really not much to say about a Ruby on Rails developer role that such a developer wouldn’t know. That’s why Powershop tapped into the year’s best in show meme to hook its target candidate.
Here’s a handy reference for those not familiar with the doge meme Powershop’s using, which comes complete with a happy Shiba Inu and compulsory comic sans.
The Trade Me ad reads, “pWOWshp, much career, omg hi, very recruit, need nice scraf pls”. And with such simple text the effort paid off for the advertiser.
It scored 22,000 views, well outstripping the average 200 views the company says it usually pulls to its job ads.
Powershop chief technology officer Brian Bannister says applications for the position were up by over 300% compared to the usual number. “The plan with the ad was to let the development community know that we need developers and that we’re a development shop. So far it’s worked better than we could have possibly hoped.”
Creativity bred creativity with replies such as: “Hi Powershop, such recent graduate, very CV, many relocate! Much excite!”; and: “Wow, such job, much excite, question, many dogecoin, await reply.”
