ITM lures builders into app with virtual reality competition

Building supply specialist ITM has launched its new app by challenging builders to catch the biggest virtual fish in a VR ‘ITM Go Fish’ competition via JustOne.

Since early December, builders have been battling it out to catch a biggie and make it onto the leader board in order to have a chance at winning one of the weekly prizes. The competition will run until 27 January, when the overall scoreboard leader will win a Matt Watson Ultimate Fishing Pack.

To encourage builders to get involved, 3,000 virtual reality headsets are being given away at ITM stores nationwide and the competition is being promoted via the ITM website, Facebook, eDM, SMS, trade media advertisements, sponsorships, Radio Hauraki and digital media.

The app can be downloaded via Apple’s App Store and Android’s Google Play.

ITM marketing manager Chris Boyle says the game was developed to engage builders and raise awareness of ITM’s app for builders.

“We know many Kiwi builders love fishing, so integrating this into the app with ‘ITM Go Fish’ is a great way to offer them some light relief before they’re able to get out on the real water,” he says.

The app allows users to access industry news and record their LBP (Licensed Building Practitioner) points from anywhere while giving many users their first VR experience.

JustOne managing director Ben Goodale says it’s made VR an intergral part of the app launch to magnify exposure, talkability and to generate genuine excitement around it.

“Virtual reality is an exciting space to be in, a great way to connect with builders, and ITM’s desire to be clearly differentiated in the building supplies market is evident with this brave campaign,” he says.
