Dish magazine has a new website to satisfy readers’ appetites for news and tips in between its bi-monthly print editions. The site, which replaces a shop window at dish.co.nz, follows the release of the publication’s iPad app in August.
The responsive website will include more hospitality news and content previously only offered via its Facebook page, says associate publisher Lisa Morton.
“We’ve found even with our Facebook page, where we have over 10,000 people following us, that we’ve got this really interested community,” says Morton.
“[The website] gives us that opportunity to be able to put more relevant news items out there, have much more regular contact with readers and cover a lot more hospitality stuff. In the magazine we don’t tend to do a lot of that, like restaurant or cafe openings. We tend to be focused more on producers.”
Food editor Claire Aldous’ Friday Baking recipe on the Dish Facebook page will be added to the new site, along with Dish Snaps, which has its own page at dishsnaps.co.nz. Dish Snaps lets readers photograph their cooking and enter it in a competition to win wine.
Dish will also add more video to its iPad app and the website in the coming year, says Morton. She adds the website will extend the reach of the magazine’s features, but hasn’t yet decided on the lag between them appearing in the print magazine and being added to the website.
The new site was designed by Dan Fickling with assistance from art director Aimee Carruthers and developed by the Creative Services Department at Image Centre Group.
The title plans further digital developments, but Morton is keeping these under wraps.
The magazine is nearly a decade old. Its average net paid sales to 30 September were 22,541, down slightly from 22,591 to 31 March.
