Specialist content and digital roles will see the biggest salary increases among creative and marketing industries this year with increasing demand for talent in this area, according to Font’s Market Pulse data.
Market Pulse offers insights into pay and employment trends in marketing, communications, PR, digital, account management and media across Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand and Singapore.
The median salary for multimedia design and digital roles grew 25 percent last year over 2012 for males, remaining stagnant for females, according to the 2013 report, as illustrated below.
Median salaries across all the surveyed sector declined last year compared with 2012, with more jobs created at junior level, but digital bucked this trend.
“Whilst overall salaries across the creative, digital and marketing industry in New Zealand have experienced low or negative growth over the past year, marketing and digital management roles saw reasonably steady growth,” says Font.
Marketing and digital salaries are expected to rise across New Zealand in 2014, with demand rising across agencies and in-house, with a diverse digital skill set in high demand.
“We are certainly seeing clients looking for new people with diverse digital expertise, which will help evolve the company and enhance the overall skill set,” says Font managing director Jacqui Barratt. “Digital competency is becoming the norm, so a more integrated approach is expected.
Font says digital strategy and execution will be in favour among advertising recruiters this year.
