The Compendium: 7 November

In a continuation of a recent trend towards long-form ads featuring big stars, long time Nespresso mascot George Clooney is joined by Jean du Jardin for a bit of good-natured, jandal-related rivalry.

And even though he’s only 12, Romeo Beckham is already in that category in this spot for Burberry.

There’s a world cup coming up, so get ready for a steady stream of muddy, macho rugby ads. But Guinness has done pretty well with its effort.

There was a time when rugby players wouldn’t be caught dead with a moisturiser, but a man (or, more particularly, a rugby union) has gotta eat. And this Dove spot plays on Rudyard Kipling’s poem ‘If’.

Helmets and brakes are for wusses.

Mountain (motor)biking.

LeBron is welcomed home by Nike.

From the mouths of babes, comes a colourful (and powerful) Mercedes ad.

Following on from the BBC’s epic music spot, the Cumberbitches will be all over this one.

James Franco has nothing but time.

More ads for a World Cup next year, but this one is in our own back yard.

Goldieblox has made waves in recent months for its feisty, feminist ads. And now it riffs on 1984 to show the dangers of dolls.

Finally, an awards ceremony for the thing that really matters.

Saturday Night Live goes deeper.

And an amazing Washington Post photo essay on New Zealand’s rugby culture
