Auckland agencies partner to develop digital hub for women’s sport

Bob’s Your Uncle and Gravitate have partnered up to launch a world first digital hub for women’s sport and recreation.

The global push for gender equity and equality in sport and recreation was given a lift this week, with the launch of a locally conceived online resource – The IWG Insight Hub. Auckland based indie agency Bob’s Your Uncle and digital developers Gravitate were key partners to bring to life this project of international significance for their client, the International Working Group (IWG) on Women & Sport and Women in Sport Aotearoa (WISPA).

The Hub pools user submitted stories, inspirational insights and motivational case studies into a central database to drive forward global change. It’s a free and searchable database available in English, Spanish and French. Any organisation, community group, sports body, student, academic or researcher can access the resources to support their own journey toward gender equity and equality for women and girls in sport and active recreation.

It was made possible through a co-lab which saw the creative vision led by Bobs Your Uncle’s and the UX/UI and digital build being led by Gravitate.

“The launch of the IWG Insight Hub has been three years in the dreaming, and nearly a year in the making. We are extraordinarily grateful to our friends at Bob’s Your Uncle and Gravitate for their mahi. From the very beginning, they understood our vision exactly and have worked with us hand-in-hand to bring it to life. It marks a major milestone for IWG globally and we’re excited to also be launching a local WISPA version in November,” saysRachel Froggatt, Secretary General of the IWG and Chief Executive of WISPA.

The need for a resource like this came from recognition there were hundreds – if not thousands – of stories of great work out there; stories of change that deserved to be shared globally to inspire more change. And the need to advance gender equity and equality in sport and recreation is even greater than ever because of the impacts of the global pandemic. For many countries sport and physical activity for women and girls remains disproportionately affected by Covid-19. Positive intervention was needed to protect the growing momentum around women’s sport at a time where resources and funding is being challenged across the board. The Insight Hub is WISPA/IWG’s answer to this challenge.

What’s special about the hub, aside from being a world first, is that anyone, anywhere can access its resources on any device and explore insights that show how others are positively making change. The Hub is designed to have a long-life as IWG chapters around the world will continue to contribute content and keep the resource alive and current.
