APN Outdoor brings Commonwealth Games to the streets

New Zealanders wanting to watch the 2018 Commonwealth Games action while out and about will have the opportunity to as APN Outdoor brings highlights from the Gold Coast to its digital network.

Digital billboards in locations across Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch will display updates, ranging from medal announcements to event reminders throughout the games period. The Commonwealth Games campaign will be running until 15 April.

In November, APN joined forces with the New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC) as an official partner of the New Zealand Olympic and Commonwealth Games teams through to 2020. The partnership is the first time NZOC has joined forces with an outdoor media provider.

APN worked with Saatchi & Saatchi and Ngage to broadcast the campaign via a specially-built microsite, allowing updates to be fed to the screens and the population almost instantaneously.

APN Outdoor New Zealand’s country head Mike Watkins says it wanted to connect with supporters in a genuine way.

“Sport is a topic that brings our nation together, we play it, we watch it and we succeed at it. It was important to create something unique that could bring this sense of patriotism to the streets and the immediacy and flexibility of digital outdoor fit the brief perfectly.”

APN currently has 22 digital billboards across the country.
