Air New Zealand dabbles in competitive auto-tuning

American Airlines and Qantas recently announced a partnership that will see the pair offering direct flights between Auckland and Los Angeles, a route over which Air New Zealand has until now held a monopoly.

During the press conference announcing the deal and the new route, Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce and American Airlines chief executive Doug Parker were both very complimentary of Air New Zealand, heaping praise on the quality of the service offered.

The team at Air New Zealand was clearly watching these proceedings with interest, because not long thereafter the airline released an auto-tune mashup, via creative agency True, in which the pair of executives are shown seemingly pointing out the quality of the Kiwi airline’s service.

Stuff also reported on how the stunt was taken even a further in the Sydney Morning Herald, with Air New Zealand taking out a full print ad that featured a quote from Joyce saying “Air New Zealand are an extremely well-run airline.”

While not the most ground-breaking campaign ever release, the cheekiness of the creative won a few fans on social media:
