Air New Zealand covered in crowdsource

The Air New Zealanders have done it again, this time brewing up an interesting marketing ploy they like to call the Aviation Design Academy, which is asking customers from New Zealand and around the world to submit their ideas and add a few finishing touches to the offerings in the airline’s new 777-300 aircraft.

“We’d like creative minds to come up with an original cocktail, an in-flight snack or a stylish eye mask – or if you lack creativity but can talk the talk, you can always pitch us your idea on video. People can choose to respond to one of these four briefs or, if you’re oozing with talent, all four.”
The category winner for the four briefs and a friend will be sent off away on the inaugural flight of the new 777-300 from Auckland to London in April 2011. And the four winners will also get to experience their winning design firsthand (eyemask, cocktail and snack), along with all passengers on this flight.

In keeping with the staff filming policy seen recently from Air New Zealand, one of the airline’s Auckland-based Engineers Duan Russell was filmed turning his hand to each of the briefs in an effort to provide consumers visiting the site with some inspiration and, with his practical skills being shown in full-flight, some entertainment.
The promotion runs for a month and entries are being accepted up until Monday 26 April.

And while you’re at it, here’s another quirky new animated spot for Air New Zealand about the joy of choice.
