Oooh, suit you sir…

…as Robert Harvey gets set to take up Philip O’Neill’s slack, DB’s Rene de Monchy departs for Singaporean shores, MEC announces a new arrival and a couple of internal promotions and TVNZ’s head of news and current affairs Anthony Flannery gets set to head back to Australia.

Go Robert Harvey Go

Philip O’Neill stepped down from the role of managing director at Mitchells a few weeks back. And now it seems Robert Harvey, who took over the role of group managing director at Publicis Mojo and ZenithOptimedia in December last year, is set to named as his replacement.

Neither O’Neill or Harvey could not be reached for comment, but it’s understood the replacement will be announced soon.

UK behemoth Aegis purchased Mitchells last year, but the local branch was largely left to operate as normal. Now it seems the merging process is being ramped up. Office space is currently being looked for to house everyone and we’ve heard the ASB media account is now apparently being controlled out of the Carat office.

Don’t walk away Rene

There’s been plenty of action in the DB Breweries marketing department recently, and there’s about to be a bit more, because consumer marketing manager Rene de Monchy is set to depart for Asian shores in a few weeks to take up a senior role with DB’s Singapore-based mothership, Asia Pacific Breweries.

De Monchy returned to DB at the start of 2010 afer nearly four years working for Heineken International in Amsterdam, where he was Heineken marketing manager for Western Europe.

DB spokesperson Jo Jalfon says a decision about his replacement will soon be made.

MEC minute

MEC Auckland has announced a new appointment a couple of promotions, with Anna Matthews joining as digital media strategist and Marc Emery and Amber Conroy moving up the pecking order.

Barry Williamson, MEC Auckland media director, says Matthews joins as the agency moves to further consolidate its digital and online media in-house.

“She will work across MEC account groups to develop and execute media strategies for both MEC direct and Y&R clients. She will also work closely with Y&R Group’s VML digital arm managed by Nigel Hammersley.”

Matthews comes to MEC from OMG, where she worked as a search account manager across group agency partners. Prior to returning to New Zealand, she worked in London at digital media and full service advertising agencies.

This appointment brings to an end a long-standing relationship with CATCH Media.

“We have enjoyed a very positive relationship with CATCH over the years, but with ownership changes at CATCH plus the on-going growth in MEC digital spends, the agency needed to further invest in its digital product for the immediate future,” says Williamson.

Emery, who has been with MEC for two-and-half years, has been promoted to television trading manager and Conroy has been promoted from senior media planner to business director media.

“Both appointments reflect the personal growth that Amber and Marc have demonstrated over the past year and which have been recognized by the agency”, says Williamson.

Flannery: gets you everywhere

Anthony Flannery, TVNZ’s head of news and current affairs, is heading to homeland in January to take up a role managing all the Ten Network’s news programmes on TV and online, including Breakfast and the 90-minute news bulletins.

“We are fortunate to have someone of Anthony’s calibre overseeing the strategic development of our growing news brand, interim chief executive Lachlan Murdoch told The Australian. “We welcome the fresh perspective that Anthony brings to the role as we look to take our news and current affairs to the next level.”
