Yes We Cannes: pun used as Kiwi jurors announced for ‘international festival of creativity’

The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity organisers have announced the line-up that will serve as the bringers of judgment to the worldwide celebration of influence and creativity. And seven talented chaps from the local biz have been chosen to head along to the Côte d’Azur, up from a mere six last year

Three Kiwi creative directors—Steve Cochran of Colenso BBDO, Tony Bradbourne of Special Group and Mike Mizrahi of Inside Out Productions—will be heading to Cannes, joining another 70+ from around the globe to judge some of the most creative work the ad world has produced in the past year.

Cochran will be on the Promo & Activation Lions jury (along with recently departed Saatchi’s ECD Dylan Harrison). In 2005 he became deputy creative director at Colenso BBDO then was made CD in 2007. Cochran holds 24 gold, 33 silver and 35 bronze awards alone with 11 Cannes Lions.

Bradbourne is serving on the Direct Lions jury. In 2007 he co-founded Special Group, and within three years helped the baby agency win National Business Review Agency of the Year, Fairfax Admedia Independent Agency of the Year, B&T Awards Australasian Emerging Agency of the Year and a Cannes Grand Prix for the Iggy Pop + Orcon campaign last year.

Design Lions juror Mike Mizrahi has worked with orchestras and rock bands, staged events in shipping dry docks, flooded town squares and bespoke structures and has a plethora of experience with a vast array of contemporary and technological tools and campaigns.

James Hurman is on the Creative Effectiveness Jury, a new award in 2011 that aims to showcase the powerful role creative advertising can play in business. Under his leadership as planning director, Colenso BBDO has been consistently recognised for its effectiveness, winning Most Effective Agency of the Year at the Effies for two years running. He is also chairman of the 2011 New Zealand Effie Awards.

Rounding out the Kiwi jurors is Starcom chief exec Alistair Jamison on the Media jury, Droga5 digital partner Jose Alomajan on the Cyber jury and DDB copywriter Simon Vicars, who had plenty of Cannes success last year with the Sky Arts channel campaign, on the Radio jury, making him one of the youngest ever Cannes jurors.
