Steve Bayliss joins Sky as chief marketing officer

Sky has welcomed Steve Bayliss to the role of chief marketing officer.

Bayliss, who left Foodstuffs last year after seven years as its group general manager of marketing, brings a wealth of marketing knowledge with him.

He’s also worked at Air New Zealand as general manager of marketing and in marketing roles abroad.

In his new role, Bayliss will be working with DDB, which retained the Sky account earlier this year after the company met with other agencies. DDB and Sky have been working together for 25 years.

Bayliss’ hire follows a number of moves in the company, most notable Martin Stewart joining as chief executive.

Stewart arrived after former chief executive John Fellet resigned from the role and also stepped-down from the board.

Former director of sport Richard Last also left the company.

If Stewart’s comments about his plans for Sky are anything to go off, Bayliss is joining a company in for a change.

“Sky should be a loved brand…,” he told Newsroom. “It’s brought high levels of production and service to the screen but somewhere along the way the relationship (with customers) started to get broken or damaged. We stopped listening or even when we did listen, we didn’t take action.”
