Sherson Willis strengthens senior team and expands presence into Wellington

Corporate affairs firm Sherson Willis continues to strengthen its senior team with the promotion of Jamie Johl to Associate Director and the hire of Genevieve Maindonald as Senior Associate.

Johl joined Sherson Willis in 2019 following her return from the UK, where she worked at the Commonwealth Secretariat. Her international relations experience also includes previous roles at the New Zealand Embassy in Washington and the New Zealand Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

Johl’s unique background places her expertise at the intersection of policy, business and law, which she brings to the service of her clients.

During her time at Sherson Willis, Johl has worked on a range of projects that have demonstrated her strong ability to deliver results, with a particular focus on strategic and financial communications, stakeholder engagement, issues management and corporate reputation.

In her new role as Associate Director, Johl will continue to provide her expertise to clients whilst also leading the overall direction of the client service team to support the implementation of world-class communications.

New hire Genevieve Maindonald joins the team with extensive knowledge in the public sector having previously held policy advisory roles including a recent role at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade at the New Zealand Embassy in Washington, working on the development and human rights portfolios.

Maindonald is experienced in stakeholder and iwi engagement, having held various roles in the Office of Treaty Settlements. She will be the firm’s first Wellington-based employee and will provide on-the-ground expertise for clients needing engagement support in Wellington.

Director Rewa Willis says: “We are thrilled to have Genevieve on board. Her strong Government background and experience with Māori and iwi engagement will be an excellent addition to our corporate affairs offering.

“These announcements reflect our commitment to growth and providing clear pathways for our team members to progress in the business, supporting the ongoing delivery of outstanding communications services to our clients.”

Earlier this year, Sherson Willis announced an agreement with FTI Consulting to become their strategic communications affiliate in New Zealand.
