Media agency Total Media, which has offices in Wellington and Auckland, was established in 1984 as New Zealand’s first media independent and is now part of the Omnicom Media Group, has announced the appointment of  ex-UK media director Natasha Le Marinel as strategy director to its Auckland agency.

Le Marinel has led the planning and client service team on Cadbury as business director at StarCom and headed up StarCom MediaVest Plus, a dedicated sponsorship and content division. Most recently, she was group media director at Universal McCan in Manchester working on a variety of high profile clients including Sainsburys Finance and also led an integrated pan European account team for American Airlines.

“We’ve been searching for someone of Natasha’s calibre and skillset for some time now, so we are thrilled that she will be joining our team,” says Lyndsey Francis, managing director of Total Media. “Natasha is the ideal candidate for this role bringing extensive strategic and communication planning experience together with a proven track record of understanding brand performance, which will dovetail nicely with our team and clients.”

Le Marinel’s appointment allows Francis to spend more time focusing on heading up the Auckland and Wellington offices as managing director.

“She is a strong international talent with the ability to turn strategic thought and insight into successful campaigns. Her specialist international knowledge and leadership skills will be an asset to our growing team,” says Francis.

Le Marinel will be arriving on New Zealand shores from Cheshire UK with her husband and two children. She started her new role yesterday.

Fishy business

Aegis Media Pacific has appointed David Fish as managing director of its Activations division, comprising multinational promotional marketing agency Apollo, field marketing specialists Synergy and experiential and brand activation agency Impact.

David has spent more than 15 years working in experiential and brand marketing. He has previously worked for below-the-line specialist agencies in the UK, including iD and Mango where he led the development of experiential campaigns across an extensive array of clients, including Nike, Diageo, GSK, Microsoft, Nestle and ING Direct.

He joins Aegis from Southern Cross Austereo, where he has spent the past four years as part of the senior executive team as national strategy director.

“His experience across multi-platform campaigns will be extremely relevant to his role with Aegis Media, as marketers increasingly look to include experiential activity as part of the way they connect with their customers,” says Luke Littlefield, chief executive of Aegis Media Pacific.

Fish starts on 9 January 2012 and joins Aegis following the resignation of Will Riley, current MD of Activations, and Ruth Money, MD of Apollo Marketing in Australia and New Zealand, who both plan to take a career break over the next year.

“Will and Ruth have been part of the Aegis Media team for four years and we’re sorry to farewell them. Apollo has developed into a leading force in the promotional marketing industry in Australia and New Zealand as a result of their hard work and commitment. I hope that we’ll be welcoming them back to the Aegis group one day.

Under their management, Apollo has grown consistently for 15 years and expanded from Auckland to have offices in Sydney and Melbourne. Apollo has been the most awarded promotional marketing agency in Australia and New Zealand since 2008.

“After 15 years of hard work, firstly founding and building Apollo and more recently with Aegis, it’s time for me to have a break,” says Riley. “I’m looking forward to spending time with my family, travelling, getting fit, learning to play the guitar, and all the other things I’ve always want to do but never had the time for.

Channelling the Spirits

Momentum Brands, the spirit and liqueur division of Independent Liquor, has boosted its team this month with the appointment of Joseph Snee as national key account manager.

Snee will focus on looking after the key account strategy and sales execution for brands across the portfolio such as Vodka Cruiser, Woodstock Bourbon, Seagers Gin, Black Heart Rum, Stolichnaya Vodka, Martineau Brandy and Canterbury Crème.

Snee comes from Lion Nathan where he held sales roles between 2006 and 2011, working as a sales executive in both the Hawke’s Bay and Auckland, as well as a business development executive. His most previous role with the company was merchandising leader/sales executive in Auckland.

Prior to his time at Lion Nathan, Snee worked at the Otago Football Union as a junior rugby development officer.
