Chris Childerhouse has joined the team at Saatchi & Saatchi as creative director.
His new appointment comes off the back of a series of new client projects with Local Government New Zealand and the Ministry of Justice in the Wellington office.
More creative hires are to follow once Childerhouse is in place.

Childerhouse joins Saatchi & Saatchi from Ogilvy Wellington after 20-plus years in advertising in New Zealand and the UK. Earlier this year, he won yellow and graphite pencils at D&AD for his Forest & Bird work and most recently won the NZME media challenge for Public Trust. Chris worked with Saatchi NZ ECDs Guy Roberts and Corey Chalmers at Whybin/TBWA.
Childerhouse will be working across all of the Saatchi & Saatchi clients with a focus on Wellington including the New Zealand Defence Force (the Navy, Army and Air Force) which is especially exciting given he spent three years in the territorials as an artillery gunner.
A fresh recruit
AUT student Chelsea Armitage has joined NBR as a part-time media reporter.
In 2014 Chelsea graduated with a bachelor of communication studies from AUT, where she won the NBR Outstanding Journalism Graduate award. She is now completing the honours year of her degree after returning from a six-month exchange at the Danish School of Media and Journalism.
Brand new position
NZME has created a new position to oversee its people and culture from a group perspective, a release says, so Michelle Hamilton has been appointed to the role of group director of culture and performance.
NZME chief executive Jane Hastings says the role is critical as the three companies come together under one roof.
“Our people are our greatest asset and the success of NZME will be defined by both our culture and our performance. Michelle has the expertise and experience and is already an employee through NZME Radio where she has worked for over two years. I’m thrilled she’s accepted the position.”
Prior to NZME, Hamilton was HR Manager at Event Cinemas, joining when it was Skycity Cinemas. She established its HR systems and functions as it was a greenfields HR site at that time and managed the acquisition component of the chain by AHL and then the subsequent launch of the Event Cinemas brand into New Zealand, including the employee brand. Prior to that Hamilton had eight years at Skycity in various HR management, project and leadership roles.
Working for Weta
Erik Hay, currently a senior copywriter at Clemenger BBDO is a creative moving client-side over to Weta Workshop to take on the role of senior communications manager.
Recent campaigns he’s worked for Colenso are Tinnyvision, Community Speedo and the latest NZ Post spot.
Hay began his career as an art director, designer and developer with Saatchi & Saatchi in Wellington’s digital team. In 2006 he became creative lead at Publicis Digital in Sydney and, in 2008, accepted a role as senior creative at Saatchi & Saatchi London. Returning to Australia in 2010, Erik established Story, an independent digital agency in Melbourne.
Pandora has announced the appointment of Thomas Heymann to head up artist and music industry relations across its Australia and New Zealand territories.
Heymann will report to the MD of Pandora ANZ and brings experience from many senior roles across the music industry both in Australia and Europe, a release says.
Most recently he launched on-demand music streaming service, Deezer, as head of Australia and New Zealand, and before that worked with artists such as Cold Chisel, Led Zeppelin and The Doors to name a few, as VP of strategic marketing for Warner Music.
Pandora managing director of Australia and New Zealand Jane Huxley says she’s delighted to have Heymann join. “Pandora ANZ has so much potential to support local artists and provide them with a global audience of over 300 million listeners. Thomas’ experience will be key to us opening up further opportunities to connect local artists with potential fans.”

Thomas takes on his role on August 10 and will be located in Pandora’s Sydney Office.
Envy Studios executive producer/joint general manager, Samantha Jukes has accepted a new role at Auckland post house Images & Sound as in-house producer.
Previously she worked at Liquid Studios, and agency-side at Saatchi & Saatchi and Clemenger Wellington.
“I’ve loved working at Envy and everything we’ve achieved since I’ve been there,” she said. “After four and a half years, it’s time to stretch the wings and learn some new tricks,” she says.
“I’m super-excited to be joining the team at Images & Sound. I’m rapt I get to work with them, and can’t wait to be part of the team.”
On the BBC
BBC has announced Jamie Chambers has been promoted to regional sales director for BBC Advertising in Australia and New Zealand to further strengthen the local sales team, a release says.
He will be responsible for advertising sales for BBC Advertising’s digital assets – bbc.com and BBCgoodfood.com – as well as international deals for global channel BBC World News.
He will oversee the generation of new business, development of major accounts and expansion of existing business through the management of the in-house sales team based in Sydney and Melbourne, plus sales reps in New Zealand and Australia, across a number of digital platforms and custom solution opportunities.
Working alongside Katrina Norton-Knight, head of advertising solutions, they will develop bespoke cross-media advertising and sponsorship opportunities for the ANZ market across all BBC Worldwide digital and STV platforms.
Over the years, Chambers has gained broad advertising experience across a portfolio which includes newspapers, magazines, digital, TV and event sponsorships.
In his new role, he will lead the ANZ team based in Sydney and Melbourne and will report to Alistair McEwan, who was recently promoted to SVP commercial development, Asia and ANZ.
Chambers said: “I’m very proud to now lead BBC Advertising across ANZ at an exciting time in our business’ evolution, as content, data and programmatic become central pillars in our offering. Tackling the talent
Ambient Group has announced a new addition to the team in the form of Rathikka Nithianantham who will take on the role of talent manager from August 31.
Rathikka has almost a decade-worth of industry experience, a release says. Her previous roles were with Clyne Model Management and Nova Talent and Models over the last eight years. She has additional experience in the management of commercial and talent divisions.
“Securing Rathikka as our new talent manager further contributes to our already extensive growth this year,” said Ambient Group CEO Chris Monaghan.
“Rathikka’s immediate attention will be focused on our recent win with Auckland Transport to provide on street human resources, but she’ll also be bringing her skills and experience to the rest of our client list.”
As Rathikka takes the helm of Ambient Talent, she’ll also be integrating with the company’s experiential and PR departments, the release says. Expanding and fine-tuning the company’s existing brand ambassador programme will be a key part of the role.
“While securing a high calibre talent manager was integral for our growth, the bigger excitement for us is around the speed at which Ambient is growing,” Monaghan says.
He says 2015 continues to be a watershed year, and the company is delighted to have Nithianantham as part of it.
New clients = new staff
Lily & Louis continues to grow in 2015 adding Hansell’s Food Group, Peroni, Lighthouse At-Home, Grin Natural, Ultraceuticals and Rhythm & Vines to its client roster as well as four new staff, a release says.

He’ll be the judge of that
Republik’s creative director Andrew Sims is heading off to New York city to judge at the 2015 International ECHO Awards.
After picking up Gold and the prestigious Diamond Award for International Best in Show at last years ECHO’s, Sims has been tapped to head up to New York to sit on the 86-strong global judging panel as the only Kiwi representative.
The International ECHO Awards honor excellence in creativity, marketing strategy, and response results in data-driven marketing campaigns.
Last year saw more than 1,000 entries submitted by agencies and advertisers worldwide. DMA’s ECHO Awards recognise every type of media used in direct and interactive marketing campaigns.
The ECHO’s are the world’s most prestigious advertising and marketing awards solely dedicated to results-driven marketing, a release says.
Sims says: “It’s great to be invited. I’ll be sitting across all three judging rounds and with entries up 35 percent on last year, it’s going to be a full on week.”
Outdoor sales specialist Kerry George has let go of one of the two roles he previously held with Outdoor Media Group, which owned both Media5 and GO Media.
For the past three-and-a-half years George has been working as national agency business director for both Media5 and GO Media, under the umbrella of Outdoor Media Group.
“Both Media5 and GO Media have experienced substantial growth over the past 18 months to the point where each company can now support their own individual sales teams and process,” George says.
“Each company has its own unique OOH inventory. GO Media’s expansion of their national bus inventory has also been a massive undertaking.”
“As a combined sales solution under one blanket entity, Outdoor Media Group is no longer an option moving forward. I have recently made the decision to work exclusively for Media5.”
Both companies have offices in Christchurch and Auckland, and will work together to transition existing business smoothly. Outdoor Media Group will cease to exist.
