APN Outdoor announces Phil Clemas’s departure

APN Outdoor has announced the resignation of general manager Phil Clemas, who departs for some family time and to reenergise after eight years of dedication to the company.

Clemas has held the position at APN Outdoor New Zealand business since February 2008 and has since led the company through significant changes and growth, a release says.

In the wider New Zealand advertising market, Clemas led the reestablishment of the outdoor industry body (OMANZ) in 2009, implementing large format digital outdoor, establishing and growing industry initiatives such as Friends In High Places as well as last year’s Pixel361, APN Outdoor’s digital creative challenge.

Clemas says it was a hard decision to leave the team at APN Outdoor.

“I have loved my time at APN Outdoor but feel it is the right time to step away and seek new challenges. I have no doubt that the upward trajectory will continue beyond my tenure as general manager and I know the team will continue to live the true spirit of APNO and make the best of all the opportunities ahead, I know they will do well.”

He told StopPress he will mark his resignation with a family holiday in New York, the first holiday he has ever taken unemployed.

He will return at the end of June to look for that next challenge and whether or not that lies in advertising he cannot say.

Clemas does, however, speak very positively about outdoor adverting saying digital platforms are leading the biggest growth. But, he says all outdoor spaces including billboards, busses and Auckland’s growing rail network provide great opportunity for the industry.

It’s a good time to leave he says, while the industry is going strong.

APN Outdoor CEO Richard Herring says Clemas’s contribution to the business is both significant and impressive.

“Having served as general manager and director of the New Zealand business for over eight years. We appreciate Phil’s commitment to the company in this time, and wish him all the best as he takes time away from work with his family before embarking on the next chapter of his career.”
