
KFC’s Double Down returns to Aotearoa with a side of gravy
KFC’s Double Down is making its return to Aotearoa and to celebrate, the fast food chain has created a gravy tap that allows customers to douse their bunless burger on demand.
The Double Down is a burger where two chicken fillets act as the bun and are stacked with bacon, cheese and sauce. It first launched here in 2011 to a mixture of anticipation from consumers and warnings from health professionals. It has since returned to Kiwi KFC restaurants on and off over the last 15 years.
To mark its comeback this year, KFC Sylvia Park has created a limited-time gravy tap, allowing people to dip their Double Down. It will be available at the Tāmakai Makaurau store from July 14 to July 17.
A product that breaks the rules
KFC marketing director, Leanne Too, says: “The Double Down has a cult following in New Zealand, and every time it’s off the menu, we hear about it. It’s the product that broke the rules, so this year we wanted its comeback to match that energy – by making it socially acceptable to double dip into gravy.”
For those who can’t make it to Sylvia Park, every Double Down purchased has an optional serving of a side of gravy at KFC restaurants nationwide until sold out.
