Droga5 ANZ welcomes Steve Kane to the agency whānau
Droga5 ANZ has appointed Steve Kane as principal director of its New Zealand office.
The agency, part of Accenture Song, was formerly The Monkeys Aotearoa, but rebranded to Droga5 in December last year.
Kane joins the team from Ogilvy Network NZ, where he was group managing director.
“In addition to being one of the greatest agency brands of the modern age, the chance to partner with CEO Storm Day and Droga5 ANZ Co-CCO Damon Stapleton was just too ridiculous to pass up,” says Kane.
“The creative bench they’ve assembled is formidable. Their client list is blue chip, and the quality of the work is clearly paramount.”
Droga5 Aotearoa CEO and New Zealand lead of Accenture Song Storm Day adds that the team is excited to welcome Kane to the Droga5 whānau.
“Steve shares our belief that outsized ambition is the key to unlocking outsized business impact. Like us, he understands the importance of building influential brands and delivering customer-first capability through the full breadth of Accenture Song’s offerings.”
Creative passion
Kane’s career spans three decades, and started in television production and PR, with stints in coporate PR in London, before returning to Aotearoa for a role with Mango Communications.
His creative passion then saw him become DDB’s experiential creative director.
In 2014, Kane was appointed managing director at Y&RNZ. Under his leadership the agency won Campaign Brief Agency of the Year in 2015. That same year, Y&RNZ’s iconic Burger King ‘McWhopper’ campaigns won three Grand Prix at Cannes.
Kane then served as managing director and partner at independent Auckland agency True, before taking the role of group managing director at Ogilvy Network NZ, including Designworks.
