The NZ Marketing Summit is back: Lego, Uber, Maccas and all things great

Get amongst over 300 fellow marketers from diverse industries across New Zealand on 8 September at Skycity Convention Centre for one big marketing celebration in the heart of Auckland. With four streams – Digital, Brand, Data, and Events – design your own NZMS itinerary by choosing the sessions and speakers you want to hear from the streams to optimise your learning experience. The choice is all yours.

This year, we’ll be covering what’s top priority and relevant in the marketing world today so you can get your strategy ready for tomorrow. We’ve tracked down the best stories full of innovation, creativity, science and courage and have made sure to bring over some phenomenal international speakers.

With degrees from Columbia, Harvard and MIT, Scott Brinker (USA) is the author of the book “Hacking Marketing” and the editor of chiefmartec.com – a blog that examines the intersection of marketing, technology, and management. A practising marketing technologist, he is also the CTO of ion interactive, a marketing software company that provides a platform for producing and delivering interactive content.

Head of marketing for Lego Australia and New Zealand, Troy Taylor is accountable for marketing the Lego brand to deliver on the company’s ambition to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow. Troy is a key member of the Australia and New Zealand leadership team and the APAC Marketing Integration Network, playing a pivotal role in strategy development and execution across the region.

And last but absolutely not least, Andrea Thomas (USA). Her 23-year career in brand management, retail marketing, innovation, and sustainability has involved working for Hershey Company, PepsiCo, and Walmart Stores in a variety of roles including SVP of Marketing and SVP of Private Brands. Currently, Andrea is a professor of marketing and director of the marketing lab at the University of Utah (USA).

To get inspired for the event, we asked our local speakers for their words of wisdom:

“Please put in effort. Create a strategy, assign a budget, define your objectives, understand your brand, promote it well.” – Dani Revell, Managing Director, We Are Anthology

“Always understand the business context before determining your strategy.” – Grant Jennings, General Manager of Marketing and Online, The Co-operative Bank

“Put your customer first. Your product must constantly evolve to meet their needs and your comms and choice of media must not only communicate the evolving benefits of your product but must be beneficial in itself. Don’t interrupt a consumer to tell them something they already know, give them a new message with your comms or give them something useful.” – Josh Moore, CEO & CCO, Y&R Group NZ

“‘Every word matters’ – I have a penchant for language, especially how a single word can completely change how an audience responds. I think the best marketers have an eye for every detail, and are constantly experimenting with how the smallest changes can shift outcomes.” – Jessica Venning-Bryan, general manager of brand, Flick Electric

“Be bold. The future wont belong to those who stand back to see how things pan out.” – Oliver Lynch, head of brand and marketing, Westpac

“Get to know your customers, intimately. Keep them always as your true north in planning and execution. Be brave and entrust in them, magic may happen.” – Jo Mitchell, director of marketing, McDonald’s Restaurants
