Terrifying TV

To promote the new film Rings, set to hit the big screen in February, a US TV store pranked its customers by bringing one of the characters to life.

While customers are listening to a sales pitch from a shop assistant, the Rings trailer begins to play and familiar black-haired Samara appears on the screen. One of the screens then rises to reveal Samara who proceeds to crawl out and scare the customers.

Since being uploaded to YouTube earlier this week, it’s already clocked up nearly five million views.

Pranking people to promote scary movies has become quite the internet trend, and last year the Sadako (the Japanese influence for Samara) came to life in a promotional stunt for Sadako vs Kayako—a mash-up of The Ring and The Grudge.

During the opening of a Japanese baseball game, the characters scared the audience by taking to the field for a game.
