Snowman migration: it’s a thing and we need to stop it

“In the meadow we could build a snowman” suggests the song Winter Wonderland, but what it doesn’t mention is that the snowman might leave to go in search of colder temperatures.

To draw attention to the effects of climate change, Cool Effect has released Save Our Snowmen, a short film that goes into The Global Snowman Sanctuary to see what is being done to help the melting creations.

It interviews Dr James Atwater, director of the global snowman’s sanctuary, as well as Dr Victoria Carlson, a climate scientist, about how 4000 species of snowmen are threatened by rising temperatures.

As a result, they are migrating in “avalanches” to cooler areas and the sanctuary is providing some relief in the form of a chill out room, karaoke nights and marshmallow roasts (which may only melt them further).

It also includes a young girl whose showman left in search of the cold, and a carrot farmer who is considering juicing his stock as they are no longer being used as noses.

To help people cut down on carbon emissions, the documentary is supported by nine videos sharing the projects run by other countries.
