Back in April, NZ Marketing magazine/StopPress and the Marketing Association called for the country’s master marketers to submit their entries to the 2018 TVNZ-NZ Marketing Awards. We can now unearth the entries that showed the judges a wealth of strategic brilliance, creative excellence and impressive commercial results as we announce the 2018 finalists.
- The full list of finalists can be found below or at marketingawards.stoppress.co.nz/features/2018-finalists.
“Not surprisingly, plenty of the big names that regularly feature at these awards have made it through again, but it’s always great to see new companies being rewarded for their marketing efforts and, following the changes we made to this year’s categories, we received an 8% increase in the number of unique entrant companies entering the awards and a 25% increase in the number of unique finalist companies making this year’s cut,” said Ben Fahy, editorial director/publisher, ICG Media. “There is some very impressive thinking and execution among the finalists. And I know the judges have some difficult decisions ahead of them.”
With the first round of judging complete new convenor of judges Michael Friedberg said “the competition this year was tough, but I am delighted to see a number of finalists making it through multiple times as well as some new entrants together with our regular candidates all vying for the top honors in this year’s awards”.
Leading the way with six finalist nominations are JH Whittaker & Sons (including as a finalist in the Rookie Marketer of the Year category), Air New Zealand and the Health Promotion Agency (one of their entries is alongside the Stroke Foundation). NZME and BP Oil New Zealand both have five finalist entries and the New Zealand Automobile Association and AA Insurance are also in the running with four finalist entries.
The TVNZ-NZ Marketing Awards celebrate the talent and success of the New Zealand marketing industry. Now in its 27th year, it is the only awards programme that recognises the business benefits of strong marketing strategies. They are supported by premier sponsor TVNZ, principal sponsors Adshel, Energi, and category sponsors BrandWorld, GrownUps, Mailshop, Nielsen, SkyKiwi.com, The Radio Bureau and TRA.
Tickets are now on sale for the usual sell-out awards evening take place on Thursday 13 September at the Cordis, Hotel, Auckland. Bookings can be made online at https://www.marketing.org.nz/marketingawards18.

Premier sponsor:
TVNZ’s all about sharing the moments that matter to New Zealanders. Each day we reach more than 2 million viewers – in lunchrooms, lounge rooms, bedrooms and on whatever device they carry around. Whether we’re breaking news, following adventures, sharing stories, or simply putting smiles on faces, we’re all about doing it better, smarter and on more screens.
TVNZ is honoured to partner with the TVNZ-NZ Marketing Awards to celebrate the industry’s brightest lights. The Awards give us an opportunity to acknowledge the hard work and outstanding achievements of a thriving industry.

Expanding our portfolio into data and geo-targeting solutions, we’re always searching for the next big thing in out-of-home, ensuring we offer advertisers new and robust ways to reach, engage and impact their audience. We’re New Zealand’s only national street furniture provider and we’ve got the scale, flexibility, creativity and innovation to drive results.

New Zealand has more radio frequencies per capita than any other country in the world. The good news is that gives advertisers exceptional opportunities to target both niche and national audiences – but it can make the campaign planning process a little daunting! We take pride in working alongside advertising agencies and their clients to provide the most comprehensive, effective and impartial radio solutions possible.

But the distinguishing feature of our work is our knowledge of human behaviour.
The TVNZ NZ Marketing Awards is run as a partnership between the Marketing Association and NZ Marketing Magazine and StopPress.co.nz, published by ICG Media.
