Boyd PR wins big for Mentemia app launch
Auckland-based Boyd PR has won a major healthcare award at the 2020 Asia-Pacific SABRE Awards for its work with Sir John Kirwan’s mental health app Mentemia.
The campaign revolved around the public launch of Mentemia and promoting the app as being free to all Kiwis for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Boyd PR won the Healthcare Providers category and was also a finalist in the Product Media Relations (Consumer Media) and Australia/New Zealand geographic categories.
The awards, which celebrate superior achievement in branding, reputation and engagement, took place virtually on September 24.
Boyd PR Managing Director, John Boyd, says the agency is very proud to have received recognition for such a meaningful campaign.
“It’s been a difficult year for everyone, but one real positive that has come out of the COVID-19 pandemic is the awareness around mental health issues and the importance of taking care of yourself.
“It was incredibly rewarding to work on a campaign that is genuinely helping Kiwis during these challenging times and having this recognised by the SABRE Awards is the icing on the cake.”
Ian Bishop, VP Marketing at Mentemia, adds: “BPR’s campaign exceeded our expectations.
“The significant media coverage played a major part in securing the more than 65,000 downloads of the Mentemia app that we currently have and claiming top spot on the App Store and Google Play.”

Stanley St wins top Effie Award for Asia-Pacific region
Within one year of opening its doors, Stanley St has been awarded the prestigious marketing excellence Effie Award for the Most Effective Independent Agency.
The first-ever virtual APAC Effie Awards 2020 ceremony took place on Friday.
The top honour bestowed on Stanley St is a testament to the team’s creative thinking, strategy, use of data, market research, and focus on client accountability and satisfaction.
Greg Partington, owner of Stanley St, says: “To be awarded this accolade within a year of Stanley St being formed reflects strongly on our commitment, and I am immensely proud of our team and humbled that our outstanding creative and marketing efforts have been recognised and applauded internationally.”
Stanley St muscled out tough competition to beat agencies from Australia, India, Japan, China, and New Zealand.
Dan West, Head of Strategy for Stanley St, says: “The APAC region has shown time and again the quality of its effective creativity. This year was no different, especially with the campaigns coming from New Zealand. Therefore, we are incredibly proud to win the award for Most Effective Independent Agency of the Year. It is a testament to Stanley St’s laser-sharp focus on driving genuine business results for our clients that make a difference to their bottom line.”
Effie Awards finalists included the NZ Marketing Association, who were finalists in the Topical Marketing (Current Events) category for The Mark Ritson WFH Marketing Bootcamp.
John Miles, CEO of NZ Marketing Association, says: “The Mark Ritson WFH Marketing Bootcamp was a great success for us and a result of a fantastic MA team who got it to market within two weeks and being delivered to marketers within six weeks. Massive thanks to Mark Ritson who believed in our idea and helped us make it happen.
“This ended up being the largest event MA had ever held with over 600 marketers enrolling, over 4200 viewing the free seminar on YouTube in two weeks. It gave us a cash injection when we had just lost two of our three income streams.”
