Google Glass shows exciting world of augmented reality, short film shows its possible dark side

Augmented reality has been a sci-fi staple for years, but recent strides in smaller, faster mobile technology has finally put commercial AR technology within our grasp . Google Glass is one of the projects leading the way in this field, giving users (called “Explorers”) a heads up display with information on the world around them. 

Concept videos for Glass have been demoed before, and the latest shows how the device is used with swipe gestures and voice commands.

While Google shows the lighter heart-warming posibilities of augmented reality, not all uses will be as noble as having birhday cake with your gam gam. A short fictional film released last year on YouTube shows the dark side of man’s continual journey towards the singularity, and the eery world of our AR future.
