There have been a number of recent campaigns that employ digital tools to get the audience to do something, from ASB’s Like Loan to Sky’s ‘Bring down the King’ to Vodafone’s sailing game to Bonus Bonds’ longerconga.co.nz. Now Emirates is joining in the fun and asking Kiwis to use social media to propel three charities to Australia.
Much like Z Energy’s charity approach with Good in the Hood, Emirates is adding an element of competition and the Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand, Variety – The Children’s Charity and Women’s Refuge will virtually race across the Tasman on three A380 aircraft. And it is up to New Zealanders to get their favourite cause to touch down in one of the airline’s three Australian destinations first.
Emirates flies three A380 aircraft daily from Auckland to Australia landing in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, and each charity has been given a port as their goal destination. The winning cause will receive ten return economy flights to their choice of one of three Emirates destinations in Australia—Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane—and the two runners-up will each receive two return economy flights to Australia.
Voters also go into the draw to win two return economy flights to one of the three Australian destinations.
“It’s been a year since we upgraded to triple-daily A380 flights from Auckland to Australia so the plane push campaign is a great way to celebrate that first anniversary,” says Emirates New Zealand regional manager Chris Lethbridge.
The app, which was built by PPR’s social arm, will be online from November 10 to November 30. So to push a deserving New Zealand not-for-profit organisation closer to Australia, vote at Emirates’ Facebook page. And while we appreciate the generous sentiment of Emirates’ plane push, the plane pull, as shown in a segment from one of the best TV shows ever made, makes for much better viewing.
Speaking of charity, IT recruitment consultancy Potentia is on the hunt for one that’s deserving of a $10,000 grant.
As a way to give back to the community each year, they run an ‘Unsung Heroes Charity Vote‘. In order to find the hero charity this year they have created a video appealing for charities to apply—and hopefully elicit a response in the same format.
Charities have until 5pm on Friday November 21, 2014 to submit their application.
“We want to find less recognised charities and we thought a video submission is a unique way to do it,” says Potentia’s managing director Josh Comrie. “The video doesn’t need to be fancy, we even encourage them to record the video on their phone. All it needs to show is why we should pick them, and then it’s up to the public to decide.”
The top five most inspiring charities will be chosen and then Potentia will ask their community and the public to vote.
And in even more charity news, KidsCan and the Child Cancer Foundation, two national children’s charities that experience massive pressure points at Christmas, have been announced as the beneficiaries of all gold coin donations from Westfield’s Christmas gift wrapping service at all nine shopping centres across New Zealand.
