Celebrating 10 years of Eyes and Ears
Ten years ago, Eyes and Ears began in a spare room in Auckland – two people, some camera gear and an appetite for making film and video that mattered.
Today, the company is an 11-strong team producing everything from brand videos to national ad campaigns to award-winning TV shows – filmed across Asia, Australia and Aotearoa.
“It’s been a wild ride,” says Calvin Sang, Founder and Director. “From where we started to where we are now – we’ve got a studio with a production team and full post-prod capabilities in the heart of Auckland.
“We’ve worked with brands I used to only dream of… and filmed projects that still make us go, How is this our job? All of this while levelling up our creative and technical expertise and producing high calibre work that punches well above our weight.”
Sharp and versatile
Over the past decade, Eyes and Ears has earned a reputation for sharp, versatile and efficient commercial work.
Whether it’s a tourism campaign, shooting delicious food, animated TVCs, or telling stories of every day New Zealanders, the work always lands with intention.
A recent highlight was when Give Me Babies directed by Calvin Sang and co-produced by Eyes and Ears took home Best Comedy at a hotly contested 2024 NZTV Awards, cementing the company’s reputation for storytelling that resonates with audiences.
Beyond its creative success, Eyes and Ears has remained mindful of its impact – both socially and environmentally. The company is Toitū net carbonzero certified and was the first New Zealand production company to join Ad Net Zero.
Hearts in the right place
“I am so proud of the fact that not only do we have some really cool opportunities to make big ads and travel the world, but that we’ve always done it with our heart in the right place.
“Even in the hardest times, I get to smile big and laugh heartily every day at my job,” says Briar Collard, General Manager.
“We’ve also been intentional about building a team that genuinely care about people and the production process.
“It’s easy to say you value inclusion, equity and mutual respect. It’s harder to embed that into every job, every set, every conversation.
“But we’ve put in the effort so it’s become part of the culture here. And it’s attracted the kinds of projects and people that elevate everything around us.”
