Another weird sea creature washes up on the beach

The media has developed something of a morbid curiosity with weird sea creatures washing up on the beach. Every time a massive carcass appears on the sandy shores some random beach town, publications across the world muse on what it might be, how this could happen and why it’s becoming more common. And this is something Greenpeace Philippines is looking to tap into with a new installation that aims to draw attention to the harm caused by plastic.

What at first looks like a whale carcass from a distance becomes a stark reminder of the harm plastic is causing to our oceans. Plastic bottles, bags and packets pour out of the mouth of the dead whale, while a net traps more waste around its body.

The installation is part of Greenpeace’s push to ban single-use plastic, which often ends up in the ocean, causing enormous harm to sealife.
